| Kincardine council will be back at the table Tuesday night (March 23), attempting to cut its 2010 budget some more. After two budget meetings (March 1 and 8), council has whittled the tax increase to eight per cent, from the original 10 per cent. Tuesday night, council will continue with discussion of the remainder of the capital budget, including the Davidson Centre, skatepark equipment, Inverhuron Bike Park, the signage program, and some smaller projects. Mayor Larry Kraemer told council Wednesday night (March 17), that Bruce County council had agreed on a zero-per-cent increase in its budget. He said that was done through provincial money which was taken from the lower-tier municipalities and given to upper-tier municipalities to cover provincial programs administered at the county level. Councillor Guy Anderson said that the county could have seen a reduction in its levy. Kraemer said county council was trying for it. With the county tax rate determined, and the education levy expected to stay the same, Kincardine should know what the overall tax hike will be by the end of Tuesday's meeting. |
Initially, Kincardine treasurer Brenda French had presented a budget with a 10-per-cent rate hike. This would mean an increase of $70.69 on a median (most common)
residential assessment of $183,000, for the municipal portion only. |
