The Municipality of Kincardine has received a grant of $10,000 from the Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation. The money will be used for legal and engineering fees related to the transfer of utilities (sewer and water) at the Bruce Energy Centre, to the municipality from Bruce Power. Chief administrative officer John deRosenroll told Kincardine council Wednesday night (March 10) that the application for the grant was submitted six weeks ago, and the money will be spent by the end of the month. The actual cost of the utility transfer is estimated at $490,000. Council has met with Bruce Power twice, and another meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 6, 5-7 p.m., at the municipal administrative centre. In other news, at the March 10 planning advisory committee meeting, council approved a rezoning to facilitate the severance of a surplus farm residence and buildings for Dieter and Judy Burger at 2368 Bruce Road 20 (former Bruce Township); a second rezoning to facilitate the severance of a surplus farm residence and buildings for John MacKinnon and Shirley Cooper at 719 Concession 6 (former Bruce Township); and a rezoning to facilitate the reconstruction of a single detached dwelling for Russel Sears at 212 Durham St. (former Town of Kincardine). |
However, due to the lengthy four-hour meeting, council called a halt at 9 p.m., and was unable to discuss plans to control giant hogweed in the municipality. The building and planning committee has recommended that giant hogweed be added to the property standards bylaw and be controlled in the rural area through public works and the weed inspector, reports chief building official Michele Barr. That will come forward at the March 17 council meeting, as well as discussion about a site plan amendment at the Kincardine Airport, and an update on the bylaw establishing a deposit for the issuance of building permits for new structures in the municipality. |
