Some interesting MAC facts

Over the past two weeks, I've been called upon to help some new MAC users.  They were surprised, but I was not. It's an old story.  The MAC is nice, but where is the software?

Here is what happened:

1.  Installing a wireless connection was a trial  No MAC Wizard and no instructions for a fine little hub recommended by the MAC salesman.  We dove into the hub itself to make the proper settings.  This is not something that the home user wants to do.  I've seen it before.

2.  An auxiliary storage  unit failed on a MAC losing an entire picture collection.  Software to recover the disk did not exist on the MAC although the person tried some.

We had to bring the storage unit over to a Vista Machine.  Looking on the net there was a ton of recovery software.  We downloaded some and the MAC user paid $42 for it.  The company gave her a trial to see if they could recover the data running on Vista.  The program said it could and it did.  All the files were recovered.

3. Another person purchased a new MAC and all of a sudden noticed that the Income Tax software that they had been using for years did not work on the new MAC.... Ah, but they had saved their old Windows XP PC, so they will buy a simple wireless USB connection and get their taxes done.   Don't toss out your old machines until you're sure everything works well.

The above problems are not new, nor will they go away. They are symptomatic of Windows 93% market share.  If you are going to write software, you write it first for the PC and then do the MAC later.  That's the way it is.
