It sure was nice to see the rain last week to green up the grass. Sure hope it doesn't want to grow too fast!

Glad to see everyone home from holidays in the South - Harvey and Betty Needham, Don and Marilyn Reid and Judy Thompson.
 
Lydia, Allison, Linda and Kenneth Graham of Oakville hosted an Easter Dinner for the McInnes and Dore families last Saturday. Largaret, Linda and Karen McInnes visited Olivia, Matt, Bob and Marion McComb of Castleton on Sunday and Marion and the McInnes' visited Myrtle Johnstone of Campbellford. 
 
Last Tuesday evening was the St. Andrew's United Church Women Easter meeting with Rev. Candy Harvey who introduced us to Labyrinths - their history and purpose for healing and mediation and reflection. She also hosts indoor labyrinth walks. The ladies planned some upcoming events. 
 
On Wednesday evening, the Purple Grove Women's Institute annual meeting was hosted by Wilma Sutton. Wilma and Janet Rhody provided luscious dessert and Cheryl Bridge was acting president. The members discussed some future events: the Lions Dinner,  Legion Dinner, Rose Program on Cancer on April 23 at 2 p.m. at the Purple Grove Community Centre, Spaghetti Supper April 25, and their May Night Out.
Reports were given from various conveners, financial statements verified, and program ideas were suggested. Diane Clifford gave an update on two of the Rose Sweat Shirt sewing projects worked on this winter. Sandy Gander gave the nominating report and president is Joyce Farrell, first vice is Cheryl Bridge, second vice is Marilyn Reid, and secretary is Janet Nixon. 

Congratulations to Dorothea MacLeod who celebrated her 90th birthday last week. Her family surprised her with a birthday party on Saturday attended by her family and friends.

 

Mary Anne Kukoly attended a Going Away party for Elizabeth Hudel on Friday evening in Kitchener. Mary Anne also visited with her cousins, Janet and Jud Maillette in Waterloo, and Ruthe and Hugh Duncan in Bloomingdale.

Sympathy from the community goes out to the family of Harvey Nicholson. His wife, Elizabeth (Scott), was raised and attended school at Purple Grove. Sympathy is also extended to the family of Rose Moulton of Kinloss.
 
On Saturday, 11 Ripley 4-H members with chaperons Sharon Martin, Anne MacInnes and Steve Hallam attended the Region 5 Farm Safety Day in Mitchell at the Crystal Palace. It was a great day with many demonstrations of various farm machinery and motors, lunch and more than 100  4-H members from the area attending. 
 
A great crowd attended the benefit dance for John and Tracey Husk on Saturday evening at the Ripley Community Centre. 

Lots of folks also enjoyed the Kinloss supper hosted by Bervie-Kinloss United Church on Sunday evening.
