It would appear that Bieners' Bush may soon become a thing of the past, despite the fact that much of the land  is considered Environmental Hazard.

Lord Elgin Estates Development Ltd. is proposing to construct between 114 - 132 housing units consisting of 81 single family dwellings and five residential blocks with between 33 and 51 units.

A number of residents have voiced their concerns through written submissions, including:

  • No reference to tree retention size of number

  • Grading & drainage; there is a history of flooding from grade changes & insufficient well reserves from de-water projects

  • Storm-water management

  • Status of remnant parcel - buffer from private property

  • Parkland & Trails

  • Sewer extension costs

  • Lee Creek crossing

  • Traffic:  a second access road to Concession 10 and access to Lakeshore Road

  • High density residential blocks

  • Existing landlocked parcels

  • Streetscaping (e.g. sidewalks)

In what is deemed an environmentally sensitive area, there are also concerns over wildlife.

According to one resident, " This will change the landscape and the wildlife forever.  Generations have relied on this area for recreation and what is being proposed will change the face of it, including drainage.  While immediate residents have been told about this, it is our feeling that nobody else seems to know anything about it!"

There is an OPEN HOUSE today (Thursday April 1) at 3:00 p.m. in the Saugeen Shores Council Chambers and a Public Meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the same location.
