Whether it's a new build or a renovation, flooring is one of the most popular ways to put your own stamp on a home.
With more than 30 years in the flooring industry, Jerome Barron says that trends come and go with flooring as with anything else when it comes to home decor.
"There is no doubt that hard surface flooring, such as hardwood, engineered hardwood, laminate and bamboo, are extremely popular today," says Barron.

Another popular flooring from sustainable forestry is cork. "Homeowners are installing cork flooring in kitchens and family rooms especially," Barron adds. "In the kitchen, it provides a cushioning affect and is easily cleaned. In the family room, it is warm underfoot and has a certain amount of sound absorption."
Barron has established long-term relationships with various flooring mills and is now providing flooring at wholesale pricing. "The mills often have over-stocked flooring and, therefore, we are able to pass on 'special' pricing to our customers."
According to Barron, many homeowners also want the look and feel of a by-gone era. "Many homeowners are now moving toward a time when floors were the wide planks found in historic homes. One of the new techniques being used is 'hand-scraping' that simulates the time-worn affect on wood and gives the flooring the appearance of having a history."

While many like hard-surface flooring, there is always a demand for carpeting. "There is no doubt," says Barron, "that people like the feel of carpet underfoot. When it comes to a bedroom or family room with theatre surround, homeowners want that softness and low-maintenance of carpeting."
Carpeting in every colour and texture
Barron explains that many today want to attempt do-it-yourself (DIY) projects when it comes to flooring but, for those who don't, installation is arranged. "We can come into the home or work with a homeowner's builder to achieve the look that a homeowner wants for every room. Many homeowners are now doing renovations and it is quickly becoming a huge trend to give a home a new look with flooring. Because we deal direct with the supplier, we are able to pass those savings on to customers."
