The long awaited decision on the DGR for low and intermediate waste has again been delayed. This time the delay will be 243 days.
The Joint Review Panel JRP concluded, after many months of study and testimony that the DGR near Kincardine was the safest and most economical solution.
The Government decision was expected in the fall of 2015. The deadline was extended to March 1, 2016.
In February the the Government asked some detailed questions and called for more environmental studies. Some response on these supplied by Ontario Power Generation was expected immanently, but more study by the Government as well as public review has resulted in a proposed delay of 243 days
The government is now reviewing requests for money for opponents of the DGR, who cannot afford to appear or do their study.
These delays have become common and as the real decision date gets closer, it is to be expected that further studies have been asked for and supplied.
The Saugeen Times has covered the DGR project closely and the interested reader should go to our DGR Section for in depth study. Don't forget to use the Saugeen Times search engine in column two for in-depth searches on our site of this subject.
