The pace quickens.  Search engines are getting more and more sophisticated.  They are moving toward not just search, but understanding too.  Who are the players in this table stakes game?  Let's review them again.

They are IBM's Watson, Microsoft's Cortana, Amazon's Alexa and Google's Google.

What the companies envision is an artificial intelligence engine upon which all their entire technological suite is built.  It's a great race.

Natural language is all part of it and feeds products like Amazon's Echo

As far as server banks and the suite of tools to deliver big data, Microsoft and Amazon are ahead.  They want to serve big industry with harnessing BIG DATA as the prize.  As far as core search engines, it's Google that leads.

Watson may be the leader in artificial intelligence, but Google is moving to another gear too.  Google has a broader spectrum and this may hurt them in the drive to get super helpful AI.

This is really important stuff.  IBM is making their entire product suite into Watson and Watson spin-offs like service, while Google is not giving their product a name other that GOOGLE.  In other words the entire company is really devoted to it long term.  Google is the product.

Much of this effort by IBM, Google and Amazon is aimed at solving problems, not just supplying data or interpreting natural language requests to turn the lights on/off.
