The monthly Saugeen Shores Probus Club meeting was held, Tuesday December 1st., at the Pt. Elgin Legion hall. The guest speaker at this event was Mr. Keith Mombourquette of Habitat for Humanity.

His talk provided a summary of accomplishments by HH during the past ten years including establishment of 72 chapters, construction of some 234 homes for the needy, store outlets in Owen Sound and Kincardine, etc.

Two new homes are planned for 2010, one each in Wiarton and Owen Sound. Costs vary, but range from $110,000 to $140,000 depending on location. Homes generally contain about 1000 sq.ft of living space.

Families are chosen by committee following submission of an application to HH.  Each family must qualify to a given criteria established by HH including financial means, employment, contribution of hours working with HH, etc.

A lively discussion followed Mr. Mombourquette's talk and slide presentation.

The Probus Xmas dinner & dance was held at the Racquet Club with a record attendance of close to 150 attending. Lindsay Morgan provided the entertainment.  Peter Weale informed the club of his retirement from the board of directors after serving for many, many years in various capacities, including President in 2007-08.
