The Kenny Baldwin Jazz Trio's smooth and seemingly effortless renditions included such traditional pieces as 'Georgia' and Mel Torme's 'Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire'. Moving from standards of the 40s to traditional Christmas music, there was something to please every musical taste. It was obvious to all that Baldwin himself is a consummate saxophonist and Robin Rich on the keyboard and Robin Martindill on swing bass rounded out the full jazz sound. |
Baldwin was born in London England and, inspired by the music of the Count Basie Band and the legendary Charlie Parker, he took up the saxophone and today plays all three alto, tenor and soprano saxophones. Baldwin worked for many years as a jazz musician in Toronto, with his own quartet, and also played with touring performers such as Mel Torme, Natalie Cole and Cab Calloway at venues such as the Imperial Room at the Royal York; the Old Mill; the Colonial and the O’Keefe Centre (now the Sony Centre). Now, in his late 70s, Baldwin lives with his wife and their dogs in Vandeleur, Grey County, Ontario and performs at the various jazz festivals through southwestern Ontario. |
