WINTER RETURNS TO BRUCE COUNTY

South Bruce OPP asking motorists to drive accordingly
(KINCARDINE, ON.) – Winter has returned to Bruce County and the South Bruce OPP want to remind drivers of the following safety tips:
Stay alert, slow down and stay in control — the three key elements to safe winter driving.
What makes the difference between an ordinary driver and a good one?

An ordinary driver reacts to the road situations.
A good driver anticipates crises and avoids them.
Don’t head out if the snowplows and sanders haven’t had a chance to do their work. If you’re going to be late, remember being late is better than not arriving at all.
What should you do if you start to skid?

Don’t PANIC!

Look where you want your vehicle to go and steer in that direction.
Don’t brake
Don’t accelerate
Drive according to current road and weather conditions. Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you and avoid situations where you may have to brake suddenly on a slippery surface.

Anyone having information that can assist Police with investigations is asked to call South Bruce OPP at 519-396-3341 (Kincardine), 519-881-3130 (Walkerton) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 -TIPS (8477). OPP Dispatch – 1-888-310-1122
